The 9th Project Steering Committee Meeting

The final and 9th Project Steering Committee Meeting was held last Tuesday, 18th June 2013 at the Ministry of Health in Belgrade, Serbia. The objective of the meeting was to present the draft of the final report on the project, and to discuss the latest developments, project activities and outcomes.

The meeting was attended by:  Dr. Simo Vuković , State Secretary; Dr. Maja Vučković-Krčmar, Programme Manager – Health and Social Affairs, EU Delegation to Serbia; Dr. Dušan Keber, Project Team Leader; Dr. Radan Džodić, National Advisory Board for Cancer Screening; and Dr. Dubravka Šaranović Racić, Assistant Ministry,  Department of Health Service Organization and Health Inspection. Attendees also included: Mr. Saša Rikanović, Project Implementation Director, European Consulting Group; Dr. Miljana Grbić, Director of the WHO Office in Serbia; Dr. Snežana Žujković, Coordinator for Cervical cancer screening, European Consulting Group; Dr. Zoran Jovanović, Health Insurance Fund Representative; Dr. Klaudia Kravić, Assistant in Cancer Screening office, Institute of Public Health, “Dr Milan Jovanović Batut”; Dr. Uroš Rakić, IT expert in Cancer Screening office, Institute of Public Health, “Dr Milan Jovanović Batut”; Dr. Snežana Živković Perišić, Coordinator for screening of institutes of Public Health, Institute of Public Health “Dr Milan Jovanović  Batut”.

Prof. Keber reviewed the project activities and outcomes, emphasizing the significance of the accumulated knowledge of the current project coordinators who have become true experts in the field of cancer screening, and stressed the importance of maintaining their work at least on part time basis in the future office. Furthermore, he also stressed the importance placed on the tasks completed at the beginning of the project, with an extensive effort invested in understanding and analysis of the current opportunistic cancer screening and its legal framework in Serbia, and comparing it with EU guidelines.

At the 9th Project Steering Committee Meeting, the main discussions focused on the project activities and outcomes throughout all stages of the implementation. Topics discussed included: the information system for screening, the increased awareness of health workers and the public, and the education of employees from Public Health Institutes and other educational tasks, amongst others. A proactive discussion about the project activities and results took place amongst all attendees at the meeting.
